About Ivan

My name is Ivan Kuznetsov. I am a chess-com 1700 (rapid) and I have 3 years of teaching experience, both groups and 1 on 1. My teaching style is extremely personal. I will mostly talk about the way you actually play. How you think, what are your weaknesses, what concepts will be useful to you specifically. I believe that this approach is the most effective way to really bring your game to the next level.

In the time I don't spend playing or teaching chess I write books, code various things in Python or just listen to music, talk to my friends, watch videos and anything else I feel like doing at the moment.

About the lesson

In my teaching I will do two things that I find most important in a teacher. First, I will be real with you. Instead of teaching you book theory to spend the class time you paid for, I will work closely with your actual games and teach you practical ideas that you can start applying to your game immediately (although we will learn some degree of theory). Most of our lesson will be learning and practicing the skills that I think will get you, specifically, to the next level. For that we will do puzzles, analyze positions from your games, discuss various in-game concepts and anything else I deem necessary to hone your thinking process.

Second, I will try to pass my love for chess down to you. Because I am like you. I am an active chess player who studies and improves at the game because it is a source of happiness and meaning to me. It is my hope that chess becomes something like this for you as well. I speak English and Russian fluently. My only condition is that you are above 7 years old.
