About Clio

My name is Clio Horsey and I am a recent graduate from the University of Bristol where I studied Anthropology.

I have worked with children of all ages and have always been passionate about education. When I was at secondary school I volunteered on Monday afternoons to work as the teachers assistant for year 3 at the local primary school. I also gave up my Saturday mornings to volunteer with the SHINE project. This project sought out overachieving, underprivileged children in the local area and gave them a chance to excel through giving them access to extra lessons and the facilities at Canford School. I was also selected to take part in the India partnership where I volunteered at an orphanage in rural India teaching the children English. I therefore have sufficient experience in teaching with a language barrier.

During my time at university I was a nanny for 2 girls - 3 & 5 years old, who had just lost their mother to cancer. Both of them were understandably rather challenging at times however I learnt a lot from working with them. I would do their homework and reading with them every night so I am more than competent at coaxing unwilling children into wanting to learn and making it enjoyable for them. When I graduated from University I worked as a teachers assistant in Bristol followed by Kenya where I was also a sports coach. The school I worked for in Kenya was an international school that followed the british curriculum however it aimed to teach its children about the importance of the environment and nature and the need to conserve them.

I have gained a lot from my experience in teaching and I understand the importance of finding the right method of teaching for each individual child whether it be visual, audio based or practical etc. Being a TA has meant that I have done a lot of 1:1 teaching with individuals who have missed things or fall behind. I am practical and well organised in my academic work and I get things done. I work extremely well under pressure and would love to pass these skills on. I have never failed an exam even in cases where I left it far too late - I have mastered the skill of cramming (Although I do understand that this does not work for everyone!). I will find the right method that works for you/your child and I will make the process as enjoyable and productive as possible.
