About Evan
I am a dedicated tutor with a strong background in mathematics and mechanical physics. My goal is not only to help students understand the material they are struggling with, but to build confidence in their problem-solving abilities. I want to adapt and help students learn in their own style, to ensure lessons are clear and engaging. My primary focus for teaching is providing a clear understanding of concepts by mixing visual interpretation, quality practice questions, and review with the student’s performance. I do not believe in pure memorization; rather, I emphasize deep understanding of topics, so mental encoding isn't necessary. I want to help students, even with the most challenging concepts, so they can gain the confidence and abilities necessary for the future.

I focus on conceptual and visual understanding, rather than pure memorization. I will break complex topics into more concise, manageable steps to facilitate greater comprehension. I encourage active participation by asking questions and solving problems together to maximize retention in areas where a student is struggling. I will assign specific problems tailored to the student’s confusion, related to their classes and exams. I understand that everyone learns differently, so I will adapt and find out the best way for a student to learn.
My methods are:
1. reviewing the material with the student to understand where they are at and what to start with.
2. providing a conceptual/visual interpretation of the topic that they are confused about. I will not start with any ambiguous
formulas or equations until the concept is clear.
3. I will go over problems of varying difficulty, from easy to moderate. This is so the student can gain hands-on practice while still having guidance.
4. Finally, I will assign homework at a moderate or rigorous level, depending on the student’s understanding.
5. The student can share their answers, and I will provide a full explanation for each solution.
6. If the session is exam-related, I will also provide methods for handling time pressure and guidance on which problems the student should focus on for studying.
