About Alysha
Hi, I'm Alysha! I’m a passionate science tutor and science teacher in Portsmouth with a degree in Biomedical Science from Southampton University. I specialise in tutoring GCSE Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, as well as A-Level Biology. As someone who didn't always find learning new concepts easy at school, I understand just how difficult and frustrating it can be when something seems hard to grasp. This experience has helped me develop a variety of strategies to break down tricky topics into manageable chunks, making complex ideas less intimidating and easier to learn. A typical science lesson with me (1 Hour) 1. Introduction (5-10 mins) - Briefly discuss the topic for the session. - Relate it to real-world applications to build interest. - Identify areas the student finds challenging. 2. Concept Breakdown & Active Recall (20-25 mins) - Explain key principles in an engaging, interactive way. - Break down complex ideas into manageable chunks. - Guide the student in creating concise, structured revision notes. - Use active recall techniques, such as asking the student to summarise concepts aloud. 3. Exam Practice (20 mins) - Work through past paper exam questions. - Demonstrate how to structure answers to maximise marks. - Discuss common pitfalls/misconceptions and how to avoid them. - Encourage students to apply their knowledge in different contexts. 4. Recap & Quiz (5-10 mins) - Quick quiz or verbal review to reinforce learning. - Identify any remaining areas for improvement.
