About Sara
Training from UCLA's advanced scriptwriting program, multiple accolades from some of the industry's biggest competitions. More than 30 years in the business.
Hi! I'm Sara Vitale from Later in Life Productions. I started writing and acting and producing it all when I was very, very young. Back then the only audience I had was my family - but I didn't care. I just knew I had to tell stories, well, bring them to life. Now I have a lot more to say and LiL is my vehicle to reach more people and tell more stories. There are so many cliches about stories, but they are only cliches because they are so universally understood. Our stories tell us who we were, who we are, and who we want to be. I am proud to be a part of that in my own small way.

What Does a Scriptwriting Coach Do? In addition to the core elements of any good coaching program listed on the left, a great scriptwriting coach:
-Provides feedback on your existing work and new pages
-Gives you step-by-step, ongoing guidance as you work through your process
-Gives editing assistance every step of the way
-Meets with you regularly "face-to-face" in person or video chat
-Helps you identify your long term goals and help you break them down to achievable milestones
-Provides the customized assistance you need to move your feature film or TV script forward through any obstacles you encounter, including writer's block, taking notes from readers, or those sometimes overwhelming rewrite requests from producers
-Stimulate, support and guide your creativity and drive without squashing your vibe.
-Identify areas of weakness and teach you the needed skills to level up your scripts.
-Provide a layer of accountability to keep you on track while motivating you to want to work.
What I teach:
Super Structure: From horror to drama, television to feature film, great stories are built on great structure. If crafted poorly, your brilliant story and vibrant characters are doomed. They deserve a solid spine! Let's analyze what you've got, or build from scratch together on your vision.
Formatting: Unlike many aspects of script writing, formatting is not flexible. There are strict rules as to how every element of the script must be formatted - and many reasons why. Let's get you up to speed on how to easily format according to current standards.
Best Practices: What goes on a title page? What is overwriting? Can I use copywritten song lyrics? Should I use act breaks? Do I put key items in caps? Let's unpack where industry standards can be bent or broken, and where best practices are critical.
Dialogue: Dialogue is where readers will instantly separate the amateurs from the pros. Learn the intricacies of dialogue and how to craft natural exchanges that enrich the characters' individual voices and move the story forward.
Characters: Your characters need to jump off the page almost instantly. Learn how to introduce characters in ways that grab the reader and give a clear picture of who this person is. Dive into arc, voice and much more.
Pitching and Marketing: What good is a great script if it isn't produced? We'll give you a crash course on how to create pitches that pop and where you can present them. The rest is up to you. I can NOT guarantee you get optioned.

Sara is a very knowledgeable and patient teacher. She helped me organize and put structure to my ideas for my film. She taught me how to pace the story and how to develop rich characters. Sara is easy to talk to and explains concepts clearly.
I've always loved working with Sara. Whether it's for doctoring a script I've already completed or starting a new project. She really knows her stuff and is so encouraging. I wouldn't go to any coach.
Sara is a great writing coach, she is easy to work with listens to me and guides me through every step of the process. Highly recommend anybody who’s looking for a great personality and someone who really cares about your success!
In a stroke of great good fortune, searching for a writing coach, I found Sara two years ago. I needed to learn how to use "Final Draft" for a 5-episode tv series. Mission accomplished. I also wanted editing help on a full-length play I'd written plus fine tuning of a couple of magazine articles. I've found Sara wonderfully responsive, efficient, experienced and insightful in all our considerable history of working together. In the course of our work, we've used "Final Draft," "Word," and Google Docs.. In all respects, I've found Sara immensely helpful and more than worth her reasonable fee structure. I recommend her without reservation. Robert Liner
I’ve trusted her to edit my novel and it has improved exponentially under her thoughtful, creative attention.
I've worked with Sara on several projects. She has an amazing gift for very, very quickly identifying the good, the bad and the in-between that needs work. And then doing the work. Sara is a careful listener, the final and essential piece that makes her a great teacher.
