I am an SDSU Graduate majoring in Social Science with an emphasis in Teaching; however, I have assisted students of all ages in reading.
My lesson structure varies among the different ages and levels. If reading comprehension is the main problem, my instruction will be focused around responding to articles or passages that highlight different aspects of reading comprehension. Other strategies, such as simultaneous note-taking, will be used appropriately when needed. Among older students, I strongly believe that being able to tie in the reading material with daily life is critical for readers' interests and growth.
I have worked with K-12 students in reading for several years. I have worked closely with around 15 different Elementary aged students, and 6 different High School students. The Elementary school students I have worked with have rapidly improved in reading level, and the High school students I have worked with have seen higher scores on tests.
I ask for an additional dollar per hour for gas expenses if the lesson will take place North of the 52 freeway, South of the 54 freeway, or East of the 125 freeway.
