About Troy
I have spent nine years training more than 310 students through the demanding but rewarding landscape of physics education. My background includes a master's degree in physics and professional engineering experience in the aerospace industry before I transitioned to full-time education. This combination of academic and industrial expertise allows me to answer the question that every physics student asks at some point: when will I ever use this? I have taught students preparing for GCSE, A-level, IB, and undergraduate physics examinations, and I have particular expertise in preparing students for engineering and physics admissions tests. My former students work in aerospace design, medical physics research, renewable energy, and quantitative finance. I am known for my systematic approach, my high standards, and my genuine investment in each student's long-term success. I maintain an extensive collection of engineering case studies, research papers, and examination resources. Outside of teaching, I build amateur radio equipment, hike in mountain regions, and mentor young engineers. I believe that physics provides the intellectual tools to understand and improve the world, and I am committed to helping every student master those tools.

My physics teaching is seasoned and application-focused connecting theoretical principles to real-world technology and engineering challenges. For thermodynamics I teach the laws of energy entropy and free energy through connections to engines refrigerators and biological systems making abstract concepts immediately relevant. Waves are explored through sound light and water wave demonstrations using digital simulations and physical experiments to build intuition about frequency wavelength interference and diffraction. Nuclear physics is taught through the study of radioactive decay nuclear reactions and energy production with discussions of radiation safety nuclear power and medical applications. I emphasize the mathematical foundations of physics teaching students to perform dimensional analysis use scaling arguments and estimate orders of magnitude. Problem-solving is taught through a structured approach of identifying relevant principles setting up equations executing mathematics and evaluating whether results make physical sense. I use a wide range of resources including simulation software video analysis tools and custom problem sets. For examination preparation I emphasize the precise use of physical terminology clear presentation of derivations and strategic time allocation during assessments.
