I believe that teaching is not only about transmitting information, but also about facilitating learning and fostering curiosity. Therefore, I use a variety of techniques and methods to engage my students and make them active participants in the learning process. Some of the techniques and methods I use are:
• Flipped classroom: I often assign readings, videos, or podcasts before the class and use the class time to discuss, apply, or deepen the concepts. This way, the students can learn at their own pace and come prepared to the class.
• Project-based learning: I design projects that allow the students to apply their knowledge and skills to real-world problems or situations. The projects are usually interdisciplinary, collaborative, and creative. The students have to present their projects to the class or to an external audience.
• Peer feedback: I encourage the students to give and receive constructive feedback from their peers. This helps them to improve their communication, critical thinking, and collaboration skills. I also provide feedback to the students on their work and progress.
• Self-assessment: I ask the students to reflect on their own learning and identify their strengths and weaknesses. I also help them to set their own learning goals and monitor their achievements. This fosters their self-regulation and metacognition skills.
The Usual Structure of a Class
The structure of a class depends on the topic, the objectives, and the level of the students. However, I usually follow a general pattern that consists of three main phases:
• Introduction: I start the class by activating the students' prior knowledge, introducing the topic and the objectives, and motivating the students to learn. I may use a question, a story, a video, or a game to spark their interest and curiosity.
• Development: I present the main concepts and information using different media and resources. I also facilitate the students' interaction and participation by asking questions, giving examples, or using activities. I check the students' understanding and clarify any doubts or misconceptions.
• Conclusion: I summarize the main points and outcomes of the class and link them to the previous and the next classes. I also review the students' learning goals and achievements and provide feedback and guidance. I may also assign homework or further readings to consolidate the learning.
My Special Features as a Teacher
I think that every teacher has their own personality and style, but some of the special features that make me a unique teacher are:
• Passion: I love what I teach and I show it to my students. I try to convey my enthusiasm and excitement for the subject and inspire them to learn more. I also share my own experiences and stories related to the topic and connect it to their lives and interests.
• Empathy: I care about my students and their learning. I try to understand their needs, preferences, and challenges and adapt my teaching accordingly. I also respect their diversity and individuality and create a safe and supportive learning environment.
• Innovation: I like to experiment with new ideas and methods and incorporate them into my teaching. I also keep myself updated on the latest trends and research in education and my field of expertise. I constantly seek feedback and opportunities to improve my teaching.
