About Callum

Hi, I am a second year student at the University of Nottingham, studying Finance, Accounting and Management. Alongside my degree, I tutor because I genuinely enjoy helping students understand subjects more clearly and feel more confident in their ability to succeed.

Earlier in my education, I did not always have the right support or effective study habits, and I know how frustrating it can feel to work hard without seeing results. At university, I rebuilt how I learn from the ground up, which led to strong academic outcomes. That experience is a big reason I teach. I have seen first hand that progress often comes not from working harder, but from working smarter, with the right structure and approach.

I get a lot of fulfilment from seeing students improve, whether that is gaining confidence, understanding difficult topics, or performing better in exams. My priority is always to help students make real progress and to give them tools they can continue using independently. Long term, I aim to work in academia, and tutoring is something I take seriously as a way of building strong teaching skills while making a meaningful difference to students’ education.

My approach to tutoring is centred around structure, exam technique, and accountability, rather than simply re-teaching content. I have extensive experience tutoring and supporting my peers academically, both at school and at university, and I find genuine fulfilment in helping others understand material more clearly and gain confidence in their abilities. My number one priority is always ensuring that students make measurable progress, both in their understanding and in their exam performance. Many students struggle not because they lack ability, but because they don’t have clear systems for revision, answering exam questions, or staying consistent. I work particularly well with students who have potential but feel unmotivated, disorganised, or unsure how to improve their grades. Each student receives a personalised plan based on their current level, exam board, and goals, with clear targets for every session.

Lessons are exam-focused and highly interactive. I teach directly from mark schemes and examiner expectations, helping students understand exactly how marks are awarded. Students actively attempt questions during lessons, explain ideas back to me, and learn how to identify and correct mistakes rather than passively listening. Alongside subject content, I place strong emphasis on study strategy, including effective revision techniques, time management, and building realistic routines that students can maintain long-term. Lessons are typically 60 minutes, which I find is the most effective length for maintaining focus and achieving consistent progress, with longer or more intensive sessions available when approaching exams.

I am a second-year student at the University of Nottingham, studying Finance, Accounting and Management, and achieved 82% in my first year, the highest in my cohort, breaking module records in three modules. I achieved A* in both Economics and Business, and a B in History at A-level. At earlier stages of my education, I lacked external academic support and effective study systems, but at university I rebuilt how I learn from the ground up, which led to strong results. This allows me to relate particularly well to students who are capable but underperforming, and to teach strategies that genuinely work.

I tutor GCSE Maths, English Language, English Literature, and History, as well as A-level Economics, Business, and History. My lessons are suitable for GCSE and A-level students who want clear structure, stronger exam technique, and a more organised, confident approach to their studies. I have long-term ambitions to work in academia, and tutoring is something I take seriously as part of building a strong foundation in teaching and academic support.
