About Amber
Hello! I am a second-year undergraduate at the University of Oxford, passionate about helping students to achieve their academic and musical goals.
My love for music began at the age of three when I was introduced to the piano. Since then, I have developed experience across a wider range of instruments, including the oboe, cello, guitar, recorder, violin, and drums. I have also completed my Grade 5 ABRSM Music Theory exam in order to help me progress to higher grades in these instruments. In addition, I enjoy DJing in my spare time and received the LSA Advanced DJing certification a few years ago.
My academic work has mainly centred on music psychology, and scholarship that questions how we define music. This has informed my academic work, with my end-of-year essay last year exploring how Berghain creates a feeling of belonging through sonic and social experience, which received a mark of 76.
I understand that every student learns differently, so I place a real focus on adapting my teaching approach to support individual needs. My aim is always to help students to progress efficiently and confidently, ensuring that lessons remain fun and supportive.

Lessons are tailored to each student's individual needs. I normally begin with a review of the course syllabus to identify the areas where they feel less confident. We may work through past papers together or use them as independent assessments to further pinpoint knowledge gaps and areas for improvement.
Using this information, I create a personalised and structured learning plan that is designed to strengthen weaker topics, consolidate understanding, and build on the students' confidence across the subject. I also focus on developing effective exam techniques and problem-solving skills to help students who are aiming for the highest grade to maximise their marks and achieve their full potential.
