About Beth

As an educator I think it is important to build students' own confidence - and this does not come from always being right, but from knowing how to deal with being stuck.

Sometimes we can feel stuck, frustrated and perhaps angry at a maths problem. Or flustered that we need to answer immediately. I know that I have felt this way in the past - something I feel is important for my students to know. They are not alone!

My approach is about helping you overcome this. Stay calm and give things a go.

About the lesson

As a teacher I start by getting to know my students and how they think - building a picture of what areas are holding them back and adapting my approach to boost confidence and reduce anxiety.

My experience stems from 2 years working in an alternative provision role (pastoral) helping students return to a school environment.

I teach by providing examples, talking through my thought process to model them for students, before giving students an opportunity to attempt the problem themselves. Links to exam questions are made where appropriate, alongside cross-curricular links. Further practice of the topics covered in the session can be provided if desired.

I have been tutoring alongside my teaching career over the last 5 years and have further experience working with young people in a previous role as a trampolining coach, extending back 10 years.

Lessons are typically 55 minutes long, for students working at KS3 and GCSE level.

In addition I can offer geometric art lessons, bringing together many of the construction skills seen at GCSE with art techniques.
