About Toby

I have a first-class maths degree from University of Reading, so my subject knowledge within maths is very solid. I am currently a Secondary school teacher in Portsmouth and have several tutoring students a week. This experience in both teaching maths and solving problems within more complex mathematical topics allows me to tutor students of all levels from KS2 to A-level and some University modules.

About the lesson

My teaching at all levels of tutoring is always directed by the specification from the exam board for the qualification. I break down the specification into the individual topics of content and use the specification as a guide of what is needed to be learnt. The individual tutoring lessons are usually based on one topic, and the objective of each lesson is to cover every point from the specification. I use many different worksheets and question papers to provide insightful and intelligently chosen questions for the student to try. I prefer to allow the student to attempt questions before addressing misconceptions as introducing common misconceptions can lead the student to walk into them when they usually wouldn’t.
