About Calista
I am a qualified secondary science teacher with a degree in kinesiology and a minor in biology. I have taught students aged 11–18 in both Canada and the UK, gaining valuable international experience that allows me to adapt my teaching to different curricula and learning needs. I have always had a genuine love for science and enjoy sharing that passion with my students by making lessons engaging, relevant, and inspiring. My Approach as a Tutor
I am a secondary science teacher based in Canada with a degree in kinesiology and a minor in biology. I recently spent a year teaching in the UK, where I taught secondary students aged 11–18 across biology, chemistry, and physics. This experience allowed me to adapt to different learning styles and curriculum requirements, while building strong classroom management and lesson-planning skills.
Teaching Methodology and Techniques
My lessons are interactive and student-focused, blending clear explanations with questioning techniques, hands-on activities, and real-life examples that make science easier to understand. I aim to build both knowledge and confidence, tailoring each session to the needs of the student.
A Typical Lesson Plan
Each lesson begins with a short review of prior knowledge to identify strengths and gaps. I then introduce the new topic with step-by-step explanations, using diagrams, analogies, or short demonstrations to deepen understanding. Students practice through guided exercises (problem-solving, whiteboard work, or application questions), and we finish with a summary task or mini-assessment to consolidate learning.
