About Tristan

To students I have the chance to help, I was just like you once. Struggling with a tricky concept or just thinking you have it but not seeing the grades you want is universal. Because of that, I've studied endlessly throughout my high school and college career to learn what I needed to in school and how to learn effectively.

Instead of having to grind things out like I did, let me help you speed up that process so you can get the A's without the dead ends and wrong turns I took to achieve academic success.

As I have with other students I've tutored, I will be attentive to your needs as a student. Don't worry about making mistakes because I'll be there to help you through all of them. It's better to be wrong and work it out before a test than to show up unprepared.

Lastly, I don't want students to feel like this is another class. Let's have fun with it! There are so many resources online to help you be engaged including games and trivia. I am super flexible in making things interesting if that means learning becomes easier.

About the lesson

As everyone has a unique approach to learning, I do my best to format tutoring in a way that is productive to each style of learning. Being at the end of my academic career, I also understand my students' academic needs as someone who is still in school yet skilled in the subjects of high school and college.

Each tutoring session of mine looks something like:

1. Reviewing material from their classes. What did they do well on? What didn't they understand and what mistakes did they make? Is there a different avenue for reasoning that can help this student better grasp a concept?

2. Practice questions that I create personally for each student. These will help students to voice their problem solving and where I may step in to add onto their thinking or correct wrong thinking.

3. Suggest new tools students can use, in part with the advice I give them, to achieve better results for the future.

4. If they have it, look through their homework and do a few problems together. This gives me a chance to see whether what we learned during the session has been taken in and applied to their classes, and gives students a bonus reward by helping them get started on their assignment.
