About Liam
I'm a Senior Software Engineer with 10+ years of professional experience working in the software industry, as well as a First-Class BSc (Hons) graduate.
I've worked with software beyond the university environment, so I understand the difference between learning how to write code and learning how to build software that is maintainable, testable and useful in the real world.
I genuinely enjoy helping people understand technical concepts that initially seem intimidating. I believe that being good at technology isn't about already knowing everything — it's about learning how to break problems down, ask the right questions and work towards a solution.
My teaching style is patient, practical and collaborative. I won't make you feel silly for asking questions, and I won't assume you understand something just because you've encountered it before. We'll work at a pace that makes sense for you and focus on the areas where you need the most support.
Whether you're struggling with a university project, preparing for your first software engineering role, or simply want to become a better developer, I'm happy to meet you where you are and help you build from there.

I offer practical, 1-to-1 software engineering mentoring for university students, graduates and junior developers.
My lessons are designed for people who can already write some code but want to understand the bigger picture of software engineering — how to approach problems, structure projects, make good design decisions and write maintainable, well-tested code.
Depending on what you need help with, sessions can cover:
Software engineering principles and best practices
Object-oriented design and design patterns
Software architecture and project structure
Code reviews and improving existing projects
Testing and debugging
Git and professional development workflows
Requirements and technical decision-making
Final-year project planning and guidance
Technical interview preparation
Preparing for the transition from university into professional software development
I particularly enjoy helping students who feel like they can "make the code work" but aren't sure whether they're approaching a problem in the way a professional software engineer would.
Sessions are collaborative and tailored to you. I'll explain concepts in plain English, work through problems with you and help you develop your own solutions rather than simply giving you the answer.
For university projects, I provide guidance and feedback while respecting academic integrity — I won't complete assessed work for you.
Online sessions are available, with face-to-face sessions potentially available across Greater Manchester.
