About Geetika

To leverage my extensive sewing expertise and passion for teaching to inspire and educate students of all ages in the art of sewing. Committed to creating an inclusive learning environment, I aim to foster creativity, enhance technical skills, and empower individuals to express themselves through the creation of beautifully crafted garments and textile projects.

About the lesson

I love sewing!!!!! I have 10+ years of experience in this industry. After completing my fashion design program from George Brown College (Toronto), I started my own business of making custom clothes. I believe clothing is a mindful act of dressing your body in a way that makes you feel good and makes you feel confident which then allows you to move into the world with confidence. Over the past years, I realized that I love sharing that excitement with others to help them realize their own sewing dreams I think this is a dream come true for me – working with the kids/ adults, AND teaching sewing. It’s a win win!!!! My Expertise: -Sewing Techniques: Proficient in teaching a wide range of sewing techniques, including hand stitching, machine stitching, hemming, buttonholes, zippers, seams, and finishing techniques. -Pattern Reading and Alteration: Skilled in guiding students through the process of reading and understanding sewing patterns, making necessary alterations, and achieving proper fit and proportions. -Garment Construction: Experienced in teaching the construction of various garments, such as skirts, dresses, pants, shirts, jackets, and more. Able to explain complex construction methods in a clear and concise manner. -Fabric Selection and Care: Knowledgeable in advising students on appropriate fabric choices for different projects, including considerations for fiber content, weight, drape, and care instructions. -Sewing Machine Operation: Proficient in instructing students on the proper operation and maintenance of sewing machines, including threading, tension adjustment, troubleshooting common issues, and utilizing different presser feet. -Embellishment Techniques: Skilled in teaching decorative sewing techniques such as appliqué, embroidery, beadwork, lace insertion, and other embellishment methods to add unique and personalized touches to projects. -Basic Garment Alterations: Capable of teaching basic garment alterations such as shortening or lengthening hems, taking in or letting out seams, adjusting waistbands, and resizing clothing for a better fit. -Time and Project Management: Able to help students effectively plan and manage their sewing projects, providing guidance on setting realistic goals, organizing materials, and managing time efficiently to complete projects within given timelines. -Safety and Sewing Practices: Committed to teaching proper safety protocols and good sewing practices, including equipment maintenance, ergonomic sewing posture, and safe handling of tools and materials. -Creative Problem Solving: Skilled in assisting students in troubleshooting and finding creative solutions to sewing challenges, fostering critical thinking skills and encouraging independent problem-solving abilities.

I did not know what to expect when I found Geetika as a sewing instructor. I had on the back a couple of options in case the lessons with Geetika would not work.
We did not use the other referrals as she was absolutely amazing!
Her professionalism, dedication along with ability to teach were very impressive . She has the patience, skills and talent required to be a designer most importantly she has the capacity to transmite that passion for sewing. My niece made a beautiful dress from scratch. She learnt how to cut , build a pattern, work on the design , structure and finish of the dress .

She explains very well the reason behind every detailed adjustments on the clothings, which helps you understand why you should sow that way.
