About Harley

Very easy going electrical engineer from Vancouver, I've worked here and also in Germany for a few years as a drone technician and kitchen appliances engineer. I've taught kids recreation after school because I love sports. I also like computer gaming and coding, guitar and piano. I like to draw from all these areas of my life when learning and teaching because being able to connect a physics or math problem to your real life is immensely helpful!

This lessons is for high school and first to second year university electronics or mechanics. We can cover things such as basic resistor networks to signal filters. Or equations involving newton's laws. I try to use real world examples to make the subject have real meaning instead of formulas on paper.

  • When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?

My interest in STEM fields started very early as a child watching the amazing TV show MythBusters. The way they applied the scientific method in a visual way and applied real mathematics to predict and evaluate fun questions really got my attention. That show shaped who I am today in many ways!
  • What makes you passionate about your subject?

I love engineering because it enables me to solve problems that, at a glance, are terrifying and seem impossible to solve. It allows me to build real devices, program real apps to solve my everyday problems!
  • What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?

I like tutoring because going back to try and explain the foundations of my knowledge solidifies what I already know. And hopefully the things I teach will let another potential scientist or engineer or astronaut get through the tedious schoolwork and do what they really want.
  • Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you? Please explain.

The first teacher I had that really inspired me was my workshop teacher in highschool. He had a passion for letting young minds find what drives them and teach them something they want to learn, rather than what the textbook says to learn. He would find a project that everyone loved while teaching them everything to be safe and productive.
  • What are your keys to success?

My key to learning is to first pick a topic that actually interests you. Studying engineering because you like math is not enough, study it because you like to solve problems and are curious about technology. Then when studying for a test, make sure that after every study session, get a real good sleep, then quickly skim what you learned. This technique will strengthen the material in your brain. If you don't re-study after a sleep, you will lose the material much quicker. I use this for everything, learning piano, learning engineering, or learning a new language.
