About Essie

Hi, I’m Essie — a singing teacher, actor and facilitator based in Sydenham.

I’ve performed in the West End and on national and international tours, and have spent almost a decade working both one-to-one and in group settings, supporting people to feel more confident and at ease in their voice.

I teach from my home, a few minutes’ walk from Sydenham station, and also offer online lessons via Zoom.

Many of the people I work with love singing but don’t feel confident in their voice or want to build a better understanding of how it works. I’ve spent years helping people do exactly that — growing in confidence and developing their voice in a way that feels natural and enjoyable. And honestly, seeing that confidence and love of singing grow in my students is one of the best parts of what I do.

About the lesson

Lessons are tailored to you. We start lessons with a warm-up and some focused technical work, before applying that to songs that suit your voice and you enjoy singing.

We’ll work on things like:
• breath and posture
• developing range and control
• tone and vocal consistency
• understanding how your voice works
• building confidence in your singing

Alongside this, we’ll apply what we’re working on to songs chosen specifically for you, so that everything feels practical, connected and enjoyable, rather than purely technical.

I use backing tracks in lessons so that I can stay fully focused on your voice and progress, and I can also share these with you to support your practice between sessions.

My approach is flexible and responsive — adjusting depending on what you need — but always with the aim of helping you feel more confident and at ease in your voice over time.

Lessons are typically one hour.

I mainly work with adults, including those who are new to singing or returning to it after a break, but have worked with a wide range of ages and experience levels.

This first lesson offered with Essie will allow you to get to know each other and clearly specify your needs for your next lessons.

Details

Lessons run on a weekly basis with a regular time slot. Payment is usually weekly, but I’m happy to discuss options if needed.

First sessions are 60 minutes, with the first 30 minutes free (charged at £22.50). We use this as an introduction — we’ll chat through what you’re looking for, do some gentle vocal exercises, and begin working with your voice so you can get a feel for how I teach.
