About Domenic

I'm from Boston. The city of champions. I fell in love with basketball as the original 'Big 3' Celtics came together and immediately won a championship in 2008. How'd they do it? How'd they beat Kobe Bryant (my favorite all time player, by the way) in their first year together? Hard work. Teamwork. Passion. Intensity. Defense.

Notice I didn't say shooting, or passing, or dribbling or rebounding or any of the actual skills on the court. I understand deep down that to be a successful basketball player, you have to master the intangibles. If you love the game, it's always evident on the court. You'll be diving for loose balls. You'll be clapping and lifting your teammates spirits. You'll have a killer look on your face as you pick the other team's best player to guard. Loving the game and playing it well all starts within your heart, and I carry this with me even when I play at a park with a few people I've never met before.

When my dad took me to Celtics games, Kevin Garnett was one of our best players. Before the games, on the jumbotron, there was literally a quick video of him just screaming and holding a basketball, getting everyone so pumped up. He's a model player. So are Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan. What those three all have in common is pure intensity. 'Mamba Mentality' was Kobe's motto. More modern examples include players like Russell Westbrook, Marcus Smart, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Donovan Mitchell, Klay Thompson, to name a few. These guys take on the court like killers. They hate to lose, they'll guard the best player on the court, they'll clap in their face, they'll do whatever it takes.

I developed a deep rooted sense of what it takes to win, how to play hard, how to focus on defense and fundamentals, and how to do what it takes to get to that point where the final buzzer ends and everyone is beyond happy with how they did.

On the other hand, I do consider myself to be a 'streetballer,' in the sense that I really have mastered the ways of handling a basketball. I have a deep arsenal of dribble moves, a terrific jump shot, and I know how to use my size and physicality well. I'm 6'5 but have always played like a point guard, and believe I have very strong vision and passing ability on the court. The game comes very slow to me, but I like to play fast. I know I'm going to be a great coach one day.

I absolutely love basketball. I think it's a beautiful sport, a tremendous workout, and a fantastic way to bring people together all over the world.

I'm looking to help younger players who really want to see how good they can get at the sport. I think of myself as a really smart player, and the truth is, I do want to play professionally overseas myself one day. I'm never giving up on that dream. When I sit around and think what I am best at, as a 22-year-old with a journalism degree, all I think about is basketball. I've been playing religiously since I was in the 2nd grade, pretty much my only sport, and it really is the only thing I can be deemed a professional at in terms of skill.

I know how to make coaches happy; I know what will stand out for players at their tryouts; I know very well how to build fundamentals; and I know how to make players become great teammates and appreciate the sport for what it is. This is something I am super passionate about. I believe 1-on-1 lessons and mentoring is very beneficial for players, and I just know that I have a lot to share.
