About Yasmin

A little bit about me:
I have extensive, hands-on experience within the zoo industry. Starting as a carnivore keeper I worked with 6 species of big cat, wolves, vultures & otters, moving on from these I gained experience with a variety of large monkeys & lesser apes, macropods, prosimians, giraffes, camelids, tapirs & penguins.
Throughout my time within zoos I have worked my way up from a volunteer to managing an entire zoo! I currently manage a team of 20 staff, overseeing them & all animal management tasks.
I am extremely passionate about mental health & am currently participating in counselling training. I encourage & engage in support sessions with my staff encouraging positive mental wellbeing.

Qualifications:
Animal Management & 11+ years as a zoo keeper with experience.
I also have extensive experience with; zoo licensing, animal transports, staff management, animal diets, as well as animal training & enrichment.

Other: I am also capable of helping with CVs, job applications, career development (trainee - management) & also stress management within this industry.

- Entering the industry & the different avenues you can take ; this will be based on your current situation but has no age limits!
- Zoo Keeper 101; covering basic skills, requirements & information
- BIAZA/EAZA accreditations; covering requirements & preparation
- Specialist subject areas; covering options & how to further your skills & passions
- Volunteering; the benefits, how to start & how it can help you become a zoo keeper
- Tutoring; level 1 - 3 animal qualifications
- Animal basics; different taxa, orders & conservation status'

Special skills:
- Advancing women within the zoo industry; how to advance & support other women.
- Advancing within the industry; the skills & experienced that will benefit you
- Leadership skills; did you know leadership skills are not just for managers? An exploration into a person of any level & experience can demonstrate leadership skills.
- Stress management; caring for animals is physically & emotional demanding. I can assist with stress management & good mental health practises.
- Overcoming difficulties in the workplace; how to cope with bullying, self-doubt & big workloads.
