About Cayman

I’m Cayman Barber. I’m a 25-year-old educator who believes that learning should be as captivating as a great story. My wife and I have been married for four years, and we are currently preparing for our biggest adventure yet: welcoming our first baby boy into the world! When I’m not in the classroom, I’m usually immersed in "nerd culture." I’m a massive comic book fan and a huge lover of movies and gaming. My passion for storytelling actually goes beyond the classroom, I am a writer about to publish my debut novel in the next couple of weeks, with a second book slated for release this summer. I bring that same creative energy and "writer’s eye" to my tutoring. Whether we are discussing the complexities of US History or deconstructing an ACT reading passage, I lean into my hobbies to make the material relatable. I’m not a "by the book" person; I’m a "people person" who uses my background in sociology to connect with students on their level. My goal is to be the mentor I would have wanted when I was in school—someone honest, engaging, and genuinely excited to help you succeed.

About the lesson

My Teaching Methodology Forget the dry lectures and the heavy textbooks. My lessons are built on storytelling, sociology, and student connection. As a current 8th-grade US History teacher, I know that students learn best when they are actually engaged, not just taking notes. What a typical session looks like: The Narrative Hook: We start every session with a "Why does this matter?" moment, connecting historical events or ACT strategies to real-world human behavior. Active Analysis: Instead of rote memorization, we dive into primary sources, artifacts, and "what-if" scenarios to build critical thinking skills. The "Coach" Approach: I don't just tutor; I mentor. I use my background in sociology to understand how a student learns best, adapting my style in real-time to keep energy levels high and anxiety low. Practical Mastery: Whether we are deconstructing the American Revolution or "hacking" the ACT English section, my goal is for you to walk away with a specific "power move" you can use in class the next day.
