Social studies/history teacher in WNY with 300 credits of university education, NYS social studies teaching certification, and 5+ years of teaching experience

Methodology

My teaching method is critical constructivist. I believe that all history and historical recorded, since they were written by people, were filtered by their worldviews and are therefore biased to some extent. My goal as an educator is to have students identify bias, missing voices, and to re-define history by looking at it through alternative viewpoints. VAK (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic), cooperative learning, online interactive, and critical literacy/inquiry are teaching methods I use quite frequently in my classroom.

Background

I have an MA in history, an advanced adolescent certificate, a double B.A. in History and Political Science, and have developed curriculum and instructed at all grade levels in social studies, from 7-12. Having taught students at high needs urban schools to college prep ones, I know how to adapt curriculum to students across a spectrum of different learning needs.
