About Ebony
I have been a full-time classroom teacher for 11 years, 8 of those internationally in Honduras and Brazil. I have experience teaching grades 7 through 12 in both English and various Social Studies subjects. I have prepared students for the AP European History exam, several scoring the maximum of 5. However, my specialty is IB Philosophy and TOK. For 3 years, I taught a one-year anticipated IB Philosophy course, and no student received lower than and some achieving the maximum score of 7. My TOK students have also achieved A's and B's. My classes have consistently performed well above the world average, and my students attribute that to my patience, dedication, and passion for the subjects I teach. I worked with all IB subjects as the IB Diploma Programme Coordinator for 3 years, and I pride myself on my ability to interpret the requirements of both AP and IB subject exams and translate those to my students in such a way that it allows them the maximum opportunity to be successful.

My teaching method is based on discussion and promotes understanding through questioning on the part of both student and teacher. I also work extensively to prepare students for written assessments, mainly through practice essays which I score using official rubrics and then review with students with the goal of continuous improvement and increasing comfort. My aim is to help students see how interesting the content can be so that they can enjoy working with the material and see how it is often applicable to their everyday lives. I also try to help students find their own voice and explore their opinions and ideas in persuasive writing, which is crucial to success in all academic settings.
