About Evan

Hello! I'm a current Master's student of sociology at the London School of Economics and Political Science with a passionate interest in helping others explore the world of sociology. Sociology is a wide umbrella discipline, and so I'm also very happy to tutor students in adjacent areas like media studies, cultural studies, humanities, gender studies, and inequalities. Additionally, I tutor in essay writing, provide research feedback and mentorship for dissertation projects, and can be a trusted sounding board during stressful deadlines.

About the lesson

My lessons are structured from a critical pedagogical perspective. This means that instead of hour long lectures of me talking AT you, (universities have already monopolized this concept!), I will talk WITH you.

1) We will discuss your current comfort with the topic and identify areas of growth.
2) We will identify immediate targets and goals (whether they are exam scores, university acceptance goals, or essay/ideas development).
3) Using this information, we will set a realistic timeline of progression that will allow you to succeed at the goals you have set for yourself. I will tutor you in the areas that will specifically help you achieve this growth, and we will set testable benchmarks to ensure you are progressing according to plan.
4) Most importantly, it will actually be fun. No one learns by having knowledge thrown at them, and you will be an active participant in the process.

By the end, you will have what C. Wright Mills terms the "Sociological Imagination", the ability to see the quiet social mechanisms that exist behind all human interaction. Moreover, you will have the freedom to explore sociology from many of the lenses that are actually interesting to you, be it photography, dance, and music, or government, economics, and human rights.
