Sociology graduate offering English Language skills and Humanities general subjects in Bedford

Methodology

I am able to tutor A-level students and below, my lesson structure will cover what the previous lesson had making sure everything has been understood when time has passed. I prefer to get to know every student one to one making sure i can then change my way of teaching to each individual child.

Background

I am a recent sociology graduate who has been tutoring for 2 years and teaching English as a second language for 1 year. I have taught 3 students one on one and over 40 classes when teaching English.I tutored one student in sociology who went from grade D to B over the few months I was tutoring. The children I had taught English skills due to age had no formal assessment but had gone up a group in English Language. When I was abroad I taught classes of children around 20 children per class. I taught English as a second language and saw the children improve and become more confident in the English Language

WORK EXPERIENCE.
β€’ Teacher – Poppy English house Vietnam 2019
While travelling I took a job teaching English as a foreign language to children the age ranged from 3 years of age to 17 years of age, the level of language knowledge ranged from complete beginners to intermediate. My key responsibilities were to care for the children and make sure they are safe at all times. Lesson plans tailored to each classes needs. Making sure that no child was left out and that all of their needs were met. This job has made me more culturally aware and an understanding of difference in ways of teaching and learning which in turn has made me more adaptable to situations.
β€’ Bar-tending and waitressing – Swan Hotel / Auction Room – September 2018- present
I worked these two job at the same time which greatened my time keeping and organisation skills with these skills put into practice I was then able to work to the best of my abilities. Through these jobs my key responsibilities were money handling, communicating with customers and making sure their needs were met, working as part of a team and communicating with them while also working on my own initiative to tackle situations.

β€’ Waitress – Megans on the Green – April 2018-September 2018
Key duties of this job were to make sure the customer has the best experience possible through the steps of service implement by management making sure that each customer will have the same standard of service. The restaurant aimed to be environmentally sustainable and as an employee made me more environmentally aware changing small things which in turn is more environmentally friendly.
β€’ Tutor – Tutor Doctor- December 2017- September 2018
I had tutored a few pupils in Sociology and English language grammar skills while with company. The sociology student went from grade D to grade B in her A-Levels while I was tutoring her due to giving her attention and changing the teaching style she needed to progress. The students I taught English to were aged 5 and 7, there was no formal examines for them but they both started to progress with their language skills.
β€’ Waitress/ bar tender/ host – multiple venues across London 2015-2018
While studying I had multiple jobs throughout London, these jobs taught me cultural awareness by working with people from many different cultures and serving customers from many different cultures. Good communication skills and a high level of customer service skills. I am able to work as a team and am very adaptable to any situation I am put in.
VOLUNTEER WORK
β€’ Teacher – Hope agency – Cambodia 2019
While travelling I volunteered at hope agency school, this was a school in rural village in the middle of Cambodia many of the families and children are in extreme poverty so teaching them English will open up more job opportunities for them and also give them a chance to move out of the village. The key responsibilities I had while out there were to look after the children and make sure they are safe at all times, teach them English and make lessons plans. The project also helped the wider community and the orphanage which was nearby.
β€’ Advisor – Brass ( Bedford Refugee and Asylum Seeker Service) – September 2018- Present
The volunteer work I do is advising and help them with their transition to the UK. This involved helping them get jobs, filling out paper work for them to help them with the companies that they will come in to contact with. It’s a small organisation consisting of two lawyers, teachers and advisors.
