About Garrett
Hello! I'm Garrett.
I have worked as a software engineer for almost 15 years now with large media companies and fast-growing startups. In my undergrad years, I completed Calculus 1/2/3, Differential Equations, Statistics, and Linear Algebra. I am currently pursuing my Master's of Science in Artificial Intelligence.
In my free time, I love to make short films, 3D modeling, 3D printing, mural and oil painting, and hike and camp with my wife and son. Personally, I have a lot of patience and like to think of myself as a creative person.

My approach to tutoring math is focused on understanding, not memorization. I want students to know *why* a concept works so they can apply it confidently instead of relying on formulas they may forget later.
I adjust each lesson to the student’s current level, learning style, and goals. We’ll typically start by identifying where they’re getting stuck, review the underlying concept, work through examples together, and then have the student solve problems independently while I guide them when needed. I also like to connect abstract concepts to practical examples whenever possible.
A typical lesson may include:
- A quick review of previous material
- Explanation of a new or challenging concept
- Guided practice problems
- Independent problem solving
- Review of mistakes and strategies for improving
- Homework, test, or quiz preparation when needed
What sets me apart is my ability to break complicated ideas into simple, understandable steps. My background in technology, engineering, and problem-solving has taught me how to approach difficult problems systematically, and I try to pass that same way of thinking on to my students.
These lessons are designed for middle and high school students who need help strengthening their math skills, catching up in class, preparing for tests, or becoming more confident problem solvers. Lessons can be adapted to the student’s specific coursework and current ability level.
