About Willow
Hi! My name is Willow, and I teach beginner songwriting. I have been songwriting since I was 15, and doing so consistently since my time at Clive began. Taking pop-songwriting intensive with professor Julie Hardy, and collaborating with my peers has taught me the importance of a consistent practice- I write every day. I love working out the lyrics. If you want descriptive, sensory language in your songs, I'm your guy! I encourage you to write through improvisation, find the corners of music that feel strange an unexplored, and to not be afraid to write something bad. That's the place all the good stuff comes from.

You can write a song about anything, and while that's very exciting, it's also daunting. I will push my students to hone their voices by analyzing the music they love, and getting to the meat of what they want to express in their music. Built in, my lessons will consist of critical listening, theory and song structure, improvisation and writing exercises, and feedback sessions. However, I am prepared to follow any thread students will gain the most from. I want to challenge you to find your style, and to shed your fear of writing something bad.
Guitar is where I live, but I am happy to teach on the instrument you are most comfortable with!
