I teach classic literature and poetry I will encourage students to think critically, explore their own interpretations, and connect literature to their own lives and often include activities like writing and debates.
Poetry Lessons: I begin with a short discussion, then read and analyze poems together, exploring themes and figurative language, followed by student-led interpretation and discussion, and end with reflection and a short assignment to continue exploring poetic ideas.
Classic Literature Lessons: I begin with a short discussion about the book or contextual introduction to the work, then guide students through reading and analyzing passages, focusing on themes, characters, and author’s style, encourage students to connect the story to their own experiences and current events, include creative or analytical exercises such as journaling or debates, and finish with reflection and a small task to continue exploring the ideas before the next lesson.
Who the Lessons Are For: High school freshmen and Middle school students.
