About Ahura
Since I was a little girl, I enjoyed reading and mostly listening to my grandmother reading stories from the book "1001 Arabian Nights" and also recount stories from her own childhood, which were product of her dad's imagination. So I suppose I am a writer at heart and by DNA, although not yet published on paper. As a teenager, I used to write poems and prose. I loved to play with the words in the Spanish language and see how they all came together narrating a story, for the most part out of my own life experiences.
In 2007, while going through a tragic situation, I found myself unemployed and caring full time for my disabled husband. In 2010 my daughter was diagnosed with Cancer. I immersed myself in the caring of both of them. Most times trying to get ahead of the day. Lost sleep, worried all the time for her, for him... I completely drowned my own needs and in term, I felt the aftermath of the consequences. I found myself with more than enough time in my hands, much less money than before, much more debts and a lot of dark thoughts.
I sought ways of coping with the stress by praying, joining online support groups, etc. As a form of relaxation or rather, venting, I started to experiment with the Microsoft Words program in my PC. I began writing a letter to God. I was used to praying out loud, but because of my husband's situation and also my daughter's, I needed to do it in a way that would protect them from hearing any of it and think it was a complaint. They were very dark times. I found myself recalling all these different anecdotes from my childhood and I realized they all had one thing in common: They all had the presence of God in them. In other words, I took it as a way of Him telling me that even in the most insignificant of times, He was with me and He certainly is in my life all the time. He was telling me to trust and let myself go. To ride the wave and float during this particular storm I was facing. These anecdotes came to me in a very bright and fluent form, not as a distant memory but rather as a very current, almost frozen in time kind of images. It took me several days. I printed it and ended up with an over 30 chapters script. I tried to publish it but unfortunately my finances did not allow me to come up with the most basic minimum amount for on demand paperback issues, so I just decided to do some kind of blog. I found WordPress and published it there. That's how Bitacora (Captain's Log) was born.
I still write, occasionally. Most times I just publish on my Facebook Profile or keep them in my desktop. I write in my native language, Spanish, although I do have a couple of stories written in English. I enjoy reading in both languages and practicing writing in English whenever the inspiration comes.

My teaching method is the same from which I learned in Elementary school back in my country. Basic alphabet, pronunciation, repetition and use of the words in the everyday communication, Pretty much the same method utilized in the States, except I find no need to memorize specific words or (Fry Words), since in Spanish, different sounds to a particular letter do not exist (IE: Short/Long sounds), or changes in pronunciation of a word depending on the subject or tenses (IE: Read present and past tense). In Spanish, what you see is what you get. Everything is pretty much defined by the punctuation and accents. All you have to memorize is one sound per letter. After mastering those things, I transition to the meaning of the words, the different tenses of the verbs and the building and comprehension of sentences, and so on, until composition of paragraphs comes in. Once the beginning lessons are understood, everything else falls into place by itself.
