About Lori

I have over 10 years of experience as a Spanish tutor. I began as a Spanish Conversation Tutor during my undergraduate studies at USF in 2014 where I led conversation groups for students learning 1st and 2nd Semester Spanish. During these lessons I would incorporate a variety of activities that encouraged students to practice speaking in Spanish. These ranged from simple dialogues, to fill in the blanks, to fun and interactive games for the whole class. I later moved on to over 9 years of tutoring students from my alma mater, Terra Linda High School, in weekly one-on-one meetings. My students were learning high school Spanish at all levels, from Spanish 1 to AP Spanish. Together we typically completed homework worksheets, reviewed grammar and vocabulary lessons, and prepared for exams. By the end of each lesson, the student would have a summary of the grammar points that we had covered and would be asked to explain these concepts back to me. By doing this, I was able to gauge the student’s level of comprehension. I am comfortable teaching at all high school levels. I have brought several students from failing to passing grades and have also worked with students with learning differences, such as dyslexia.

About the lesson

I meet students where they are at with Spanish. We typically start with whatever homework assignment they have, review the lesson that goes with the assignment, and complete the assignment. I end with what I call "quick notes" where I highlight the 3 most important parts of that lesson for the student to remember. I use a gentle approach, I want you to learn and to feel comfortable doing it!
