About Kayla
Hello! My name is Ms. Gilbert, and I’m passionate about helping students reach their fullest potential through patient, individualized, and engaging instruction. I specialize in supporting middle and high school students with special education needs, including those with learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, and ADHD. I believe that every student can learn and succeed when given the right tools, strategies, and encouragement. My tutoring sessions focus on building both academic skills and confidence, so students feel capable and motivated to keep growing. My teaching method is rooted in evidence-based practices and differentiated instruction. I use clear, step-by-step explanations and a variety of visual, auditory, and hands-on techniques to help each student understand in a way that makes sense for them.

As a tutor for special education students, I bring patience, empathy, and evidence-based instructional strategies that meet each learner where they are. I believe all students are capable of growth when instruction is accessible, engaging, and tailored to their individual needs. My goal is not only to help students master academic skills but also to build their confidence, independence, and love of learning.
What sets me apart is my ability to combine empathy with evidence-based practice. I understand that academic challenges often intertwine with emotional and behavioral needs, so I focus equally on skill-building and relationship-building. My calm, encouraging demeanor helps students feel safe to take academic risks. I also collaborate closely with teachers, families, and support staff to ensure consistency across settings.
My lessons are designed for middle and high school students (grades 6–12) receiving special education support, including those with specific learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, or other learning differences. I focus on literacy, reading comprehension, writing, and math reasoning skills, with the flexibility to adapt to each student’s IEP goals and academic level.
