About Evan

My name is Evan Tammenga, and I am a special education teacher with experience working with both elementary and middle school students. I began my teaching career in 2020 and currently work for Special School District of St. Louis County.

Throughout my career, I have supported students with a wide range of academic, behavioral, and learning needs. I enjoy helping students build confidence, strengthen their skills, and experience success in areas that may have previously felt challenging.

As a tutor, I bring patience, flexibility, and an individualized approach to each student. I believe strong relationships are an important part of learning, and I work to create a positive, supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and growing.

About the lesson

My lessons are individualized to each student’s needs, strengths, and learning style. I focus on breaking concepts into clear, manageable steps and providing plenty of modeling, guided practice, and opportunities for students to work independently as they build confidence.

A typical lesson may include reviewing previously learned skills, introducing or practicing a current concept, working through examples together, and giving the student a chance to apply the skill independently. I adjust the pace and level of support throughout the lesson based on how the student is responding.

As a special education teacher, I have experience adapting instruction, using different strategies to explain the same concept, and supporting students who may need additional repetition, structure, or encouragement. My lessons are appropriate for elementary and middle school students who need extra math support, homework help, skill-building, or additional practice.
