It is my belief that you can be successful in whatever you are passionate for. I consider myself lucky for discovering that my passion lies in working with students who have varying abilities. I frequently am told that it takes a special person to be a Special Education teacher like myself, however I don’t necessarily agree with that, because I believe that the special ones are my students. They are the ones who teach me more than I can begin to share with anyone. They come to school on a daily basis after being dealt so much in life with a willingness to try new things, a determination to never give up, a creativity that is inspiring and a sense of caring that is contagious. While I am often praised I feel that too often my students are not being given the opportunity they deserve or the acknowledgement of their skills. Those thoughts of doubt and ignorance along with the qualities my student’s possess motivate me to be the best educator I can be.
I believe that each student has varying abilities, not disabilities, and it is my role as an educator to find their strengths, individual learning style, as well as their personal interests.
