About Shirley
I have a Bachelors in Music Education (Piano/Voice); Master of Music (Music Therapy); Master of Education (Special Education Specialty - Emotional and Behavioral Disabilities).
I have experience working in various types of hospitals, care facilities for aging individuals, private and public schools, churches, and para churches. I am currently a graduate student in seminary working toward a degree in Practical Theology.
I quickly build rapport with students and parents, and assure them that my strength is teaching, and helping to problem solve through music therapy/music education. I applaud student successes and affirm no mistakes - but rather learn how to properly communicate why and how you see things differently, or similarly! Oftentimes, we come to realize our needs are really our strengths that help use build character behind what we do.

1. I am a Special Educator who teaches piano lessons: I use theories, models, and practices in special education with dual components of music therapy/music education theories, models, and practices. I assess student's learning style(s) and develop lessons plans using the Taxonomy of Educational Objectives: Cognitive Domain, Affective Domain, and Psychomotor Domain. These are simply frameworks to identify with increased clarity of what piano students learn. Musically piano books are purchased including 1) Music Theory, and 2) Piano Book. 3) As the student progresses another book of interest for repertoire (classical, hymns, etc.) is purchased.
2. I also tutor grades, K-5 in Special Education: Reading.
