About Ryan

I’m a professional tutor and Executive Function coach with more than 12 years of experience supporting students who need structured, individualized academic support. My background includes extensive work with students with ADHD, autism, learning differences, executive-function challenges, and other special education needs across school-based and one-on-one settings.

My work goes beyond traditional tutoring. I focus on understanding how each student learns, where performance tends to break down, and which specific systems will help that student become more accurate, organized, consistent, and independent.

Many of the students I work with are capable learners who struggle not because they cannot understand the material, but because organization, task initiation, attention, planning, working memory, or follow-through interfere with their ability to perform consistently. I help identify those patterns and build practical systems around them.

My approach is calm, structured, direct, and highly individualized. I break complex academic demands into manageable steps, establish clear expectations, and teach students how to use routines and strategies they can eventually apply without constant adult prompting.

I also work closely with families when appropriate to understand IEP or 504 goals, school expectations, academic concerns, and strategies that have or have not worked in the past.

I maintain high expectations while adapting the method of instruction to the learner. The goal is not simply to complete homework or get through the next test. It is to help students build the academic skills, executive-function systems, self-awareness, and independence they need for long-term success.

My lessons are built for students who benefit from clear structure, individualized instruction, and practical systems for managing both academic work and executive-function demands.

We begin by identifying exactly where the student is struggling. That may include organization, task initiation, attention, planning, working memory, time management, incomplete assignments, studying, academic skill gaps, or difficulty managing multi-step responsibilities.

From there, I build a personalized system around the student’s actual needs, learning profile, coursework, and daily demands.

Depending on the student, lessons may focus on:

• Organization of assignments, materials, and digital school platforms
• Task initiation and overcoming avoidance or procrastination
• Planning and breaking large assignments into manageable steps
• Time management and realistic scheduling
• Attention and distraction-management strategies
• Working-memory supports and external systems
• Study skills, note-taking, and test preparation
• Reading, writing, and other academic skill development
• Tracking incomplete work and improving follow-through
• Building routines that increase consistency and independence
• Learning how to recover when a plan breaks down

Sessions are practical and active. When appropriate, we work directly with real assignments, upcoming tests, long-term projects, school schedules, grades, and responsibilities so that the strategies are immediately relevant to the student’s life.

For students with ADHD, autism, or other learning differences, I adapt the structure, pacing, communication, and instructional approach without lowering expectations. The objective is to make academic demands clearer and more manageable while continuing to build genuine independence.

Accountability is also used strategically. Early on, some students need more prompting, structure, and external support. As skills strengthen, I gradually shift responsibility back to the student so that progress does not depend permanently on a tutor, parent, or teacher.

The long-term goal is not simply better homework completion. It is a student who understands how to organize, plan, start, persist, problem-solve, and manage academic responsibilities with increasing confidence and independence.
