About Me
Hi! I’m Jan Christmas, a passionate hairdresser of 30 years and 10 years SEN specialist teaching in a SEN FE College with lots of experience in the world of hairstyling. I’ve worked with a variety of clients, mastered the latest trends, and I absolutely love transforming hair—and boosting confidence along the way!

Why I Teach
Teaching hairdressing isn’t just about cutting or colouring hair—it’s about sharing my passion, creativity, and professional know-how. I want to help my students gain the skills, techniques, and confidence to thrive in this exciting industry. Watching someone grow from a beginner to a confident stylist is incredibly rewarding, and I’m here to guide you every step of the way.

About the lesson

I am a semi-retired hairdressing teacher with SEN training, offering online one to one hairdressing lessons for students with additional learning needs. I have many years of experience teaching learners of all ages and abilities, and I understand that everyone learns differently.

My lessons are calm, structured, and student-led, allowing learners to progress at their own pace in a safe and supportive environment. I place a strong focus on building confidence, independence, and practical skills, whether the learner is a complete beginner or looking to develop existing abilities.

My teaching approach
As an SEN-trained teacher, I:

- Use clear explanations and visual support
- Break skills into small, manageable steps
- Repeat and reinforce learning as needed
- Create a relaxed, pressure-free atmosphere
- Encourage learners to feel proud of their progress

What will you learn?
Lessons can be adapted to suit individual needs and may include:

- Hairdressing basics (tools, hygiene, safety)
- Cutting and styling techniques
- Blow-drying and finishing skills
- Colour theory (introductory level)
- Salon routines and professionalism
- Step-by-step guidance with repetition where helpful
Content is always adjusted to the learner's ability and goals

All lessons are delivered online, making them accessible and comfortable for learners who prefer to learn from home. Sessions are flexible and personalised.

My qualifications:

- Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training
- QTS Qualified Teacher Status
- Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment
Processes and Practice
- Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Autism
- Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Children and Young Peoples Mental Health
- City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Women's Hairdressing
