As an engineer and teacher in training, I can easily tell from my student's work if they are missing certain key concepts. This is where scaffolding comes into play. Ability to see through somebody's ability or the lack thereof provides a chance to fortify concepts that were missed. This provides the groundwork and framework for preparation.
