About Dan
I graduated summa cum laude from Tulane University with a double major in Computer Science and Math and a double minor in Economics and Philosophy. After graduating, I spent 5 years as an ML engineer and eventually tech lead at an enterprise data company. I'm now the technical cofounder of a software startup, where I built our product from scratch. I predominantly write code in Python and TypeScript, but have experience in Java, C++, and Rust as well.
I've been teaching in some form for years. While I was at Tulane, I tutored students at Loyola University New Orleans in intro CS, and as a tech lead I mentored junior engineers through code reviews, design decisions, and debugging.

I tutor most computer science and software engineering subjects and math up to and including single-variable calculus. I'm happy to work with college and high school students, as well as adults learning to code.
I love getting in the weeds and decomposing problems with students. Now that so much code is written by AI, I think it's more crucial than ever to focus on understanding the fundamentals, as it's become so easy to gloss over them.
A typical lesson starts with whatever you're working on, whether that's homework, an upcoming exam, or a project. You do the writing or coding, and when you get stuck, I ask questions that get you to look at the problem from a different angle instead of handing you the answer. We finish by going over what to practice before next time.
