About Tom
First-class BSc Mathematics, with a dissertation applying statistical modelling to real clinical data. I then spent 15 years applying statistics commercially: actuarial risk and pricing models at major UK insurers and banks, experimentation programmes running 50+ A/B tests, and the statistical foundations underneath machine learning systems. I have seen every way statistics gets misused in practice, which makes me good at teaching how to use it well. I run my own AI consultancy and teach online from Northamptonshire.

Statistics is usually taught as recipes to memorise. I teach it as a way of thinking, which is why it sticks.
What we can cover: university statistics modules (probability, inference, regression, hypothesis testing), statistics for data science and machine learning, research methods and dissertation support (study design, choosing the right test, interpreting output), A/B testing and experimentation as industry practises it, and applied areas including survival analysis, GLMs and Bayesian approaches.
Typical students: university students whose modules moved too fast, postgraduate researchers who need their methods chapter to be right, professionals who need statistical literacy for their role, and data scientists shoring up their foundations.

Tom is helping me with a huge ML project that is totally overwhelming, he has helped me split the task into smaller tasks and is helping me with the code and what I should report on. I am so grateful for his help, and he is so enthusiastic and friendly and isn’t making me feel stupid ! Thanks Tom!
