About Mia

I've spent years painting murals and street art, and that bold, expressive, public-facing background still shapes almost everything about how I run an ESL lesson today. Five years into teaching now, I've worked with about seventy-five adult students, many of them creative people or simply adults who find timid, overly cautious classroom material genuinely uninspiring to work through. My mural background gives me a naturally bold, expressive teaching style, treating language learning a bit like a wall waiting for confident, genuine color and expression. I connect particularly well with adult learners who respond to visual, creative learning rather than dry theory disconnected from anything tangible or genuinely expressive. My teaching style is bold, warm, and genuinely creative, built on the belief that confident, imperfect attempts beat cautious, timid perfectionism every single time in language learning. I take genuine pride in watching a student confidently express a genuine opinion or interpretation entirely in English for the first time. Many students tell me they finally feel free to take genuine creative risks with language, rather than freezing up out of fear of imperfection. My approach treats language as something to be painted boldly, not sketched timidly. After five years, I remain genuinely passionate about this bold teaching approach.

My work painting murals shapes an entirely bold, expressive approach to teaching ESL, since I genuinely believe language, like a mural, benefits from confident, expressive attempts over cautious, timid perfectionism. Lessons often start with an image, a mural, a piece of street art, discussing its meaning and story together, since visual symbolism naturally sparks rich, genuinely engaged conversation. Vocabulary grows around colour, symbolism, and expression, genuinely vivid words that go well beyond typical, dry classroom material available elsewhere. Grammar gets taught through description and interpretation, structures that come up constantly when discussing meaning, symbolism, and genuine creative choices in real depth. I encourage students to describe their own reactions to art or create their own visual "mural" of vocabulary, building genuine, personal, expressive speaking practice. Listening practice sometimes uses artist interviews and street art documentaries, exposing students to natural English wrapped around genuinely engaging visual and creative content. I keep lessons bold and expressive, closer to a creative studio conversation than a formal classroom setting, since that atmosphere genuinely helps students take confident creative risks. Mistakes get treated like a bold brushstroke that just needs adjusting, never something to fear. Every lesson leaves students with language that feels genuinely bold and alive.
