About Tom
I am from Berlin, Germany and I currently live and work in the US. I attended one year of high school in Canada where I perfected my ability to speak English. Math was always my favourite subject in German high school and ever since then I successfully taught kids around my neighbourhood from grades 1 through 12. I believe there is no right or wrong way to teach. Every student has a unique way of learning and understanding certain concepts and require different teaching approaches. Also, seeing my students improve their grades is one of the main reasons why I do what I do, I absolutely love to share their success and hard work with them.

In the beginning, I believe it is important to establish trust with my students. Often students do not admit that tutors are moving too fast, or that they do not understand something because it embarrasses them. This only enables bad communication and slows down the learning process. Students need to be comfortable with their tutor. Once I know what techniques my students respond to (demonstrating, explaining, guiding them to solve it on their own etc.) and what the topic is about, I prepare my lessons in advance to ensure efficient time use and optimal learning progress.
