About Wendy
Originally from Hampshire, I have been playing the Bassoon for over 10 years. I participated in the ensembles firstly in school and then in the County Wind Ensemble going on tour to Sweden and Denmark as well as playing in local Youth Orchestras and Amateur Orchestras. After completing the Hampshire Specialist Music Course, doing lots of chamber music, I am now studying with the Principal Bassoonist of BBC National Orchestra of Wales in Cardiff, studying my undergraduate degree whilst having obtained my Grade 8 Bassoon in 2021. I have played alongside BBC NOW and was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Wales in their residency and tour around Wales in 2024 playing Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet and The Firebird Suite by Stravinsky. I also played in the Amadeus Orchestra in 2024, playing Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra and Sea Interludes from Britten. Both of which were very valuable and experiences I learnt a lot from.

I enjoy working with people of all ages and showing my passion for music and the joy that it can bring to life. Having already taught younger pupils, I understand that every person is unique and this is important to me during our lessons. From experience, I know that a happy student in their lesson makes all the difference when playing. A lesson should be joyful and my priority in our lessons is to help you enjoy and progress in our lessons! In our lessons, whether you're a beginner or more advanced, I'll cater to your needs and work out how we could get the most out of playing the bassoon (or flute) in your lessons and use our time to create an enjoyable space to play. I can teach from beginner to grade 8 as well as looking through orchestra excerpts, other orchestral repertoire plus anything you'd like to look at. I care about how my pupils enjoy their music and if you want to learn the bassoon so you can play 'We Will Rock You', then let's do it! How much do I charge? 1 hour: £32 I am also available for Flute lessons from beginner to intermediate as I am Grade 8 Flute standard.

Wendy is an absolutely incredible tutor. She is knowledgable, kind and most importantly of all adaptable and can suit your learning and your stage of bassoon, whether you’re a pro or just starting out. She has taught me for many years in person and thanks to her I am going on to study woodwind full time now at conservatoire. I highly recommend her to anyone seeking to better their bassoon skills!
