My first approach is to find out where the problem is and try to unblock the thing that's wrong! I use visual techniques (diagrams, graphs, drawings etc.) and then move on to the more regular and classic methods expected by the curriculum.
Whether it's the course or the exercises, I'm here to give you the confidence and the tools you need to move forward!
