About Eva

I am a serious young woman studying Mathematics in my 3rd year at Durham University in the UK.
Before starting my degree in Mathematics, I followed a Bachelor of Commerce degree at McGill University in Canada (courses taught in English).
I graduated with French Baccalauréat in Science two years ahead of my time with 20/20 in Mathematics and in Mathematics option. In order to access a university course in Mathematics in England, I had to take the equivalent of the English baccalaureate, the A-levels, in Mathematics, and I got 95%.
I have been tutoring since 12th grade, mainly in French/English and Mathematics. I have had very good feedback on my pedagogy (my students' grades have increased). I have always devoted particular attention to my student's needs. I enjoy teaching and passing on knowledge.

My teaching method is a student-oriented one, very flexible and adaptable to the needs of the moment. In each session, we will focus on a particular subject: algebra, geometry, statistics.
We will first review the assignments so that the student can absorb the skills that are required of him/her and begin to think for him/herself.
I truly believe that the general perception of mathematics as a dry subject can be changed with the right approach to teaching. For this reason, I try to connect the topic of the lesson to practical applications that can be interesting to the student (algebra and cryptography for example). Once the lesson is explained, I ask the student to rephrase/reformulate what he/she has understood in his/her own words. Then, I give him/her relatively simple exercises that I have made myself, before we start with the homework.
If the student has difficulties with the homework that was given to him/her, I never give the answers directly, but I try to lead, by explaining in the most intuitive way possible, the student to understand by himself/herself how to solve the exercise. My teaching method is a method that listens to the student, is very flexible and adaptable to the needs of the moment.
For algebra, I choose an intuitive and playful teaching method that depends on the student's level: of course, the lesson will not be the same for a student in middle school or in high school. For high school students, I try to broaden the horizons of algebra and prepare them for higher education.
For geometry, my method is identical.
Finally, in statistics (reserved for high school students), I connect at the end of each lesson a current theme related to what has just been studied: the COVID crisis, for example.
If the student still gets stuck on the homework with the clues and hints I have given to him/her, I will give him/her the answer step by step; and at the next session, he/she will have to redo the exercise in front of me, showing me that he/she has understood the lesson.
In summary, my method focuses on the reasoning and "inner workings" of mathematics, a method that has been successful in making reluctant students love mathematics.
I only give online courses, by Zoom or by Skype.
I also teach in analysis, discrete mathematics, calculus and mathematical logic for first year undergraduate students.
