About Thomas
I am a politics and philosophy student, and have spent most of my life reading about politics, from current affairs, to broader theories, and so am acquainted with all the major schools of thought, and events going on in the world. Equally, I am well read in history, and am able to discuss broad theories such as Marxism, alongside their historical application. I believe I would be able to tutor on a range of topics in this field, from GCSE to A-Level, and even the first year of most university courses if required. In terms of philosophy, I have achieved first class grades in my Oxford examinations thus far, and would be happy to discuss topics from Kantian ethics to theories of induction, as well as sections of philosophical logic, though I am better trained in British thought, and would not be best suited to discussing post-Kantian European philosophy, though if provided with a syllabus I'm sure I could quickly come to grips with the material.

I would be best suited to teaching one-on-one. I believe that the best way to teach is through discussion, and I would attempt to engage you with questions, looking to challenge the reasons for why you think what you think, and looking for elaboration so I can grasp the exact extent of your knowledge. Once I have come to understand what you know, I would begin explaining additional elements in a manner that engages you, constantly looking to test whether the information is going in. This style mirrors the Oxford tutorial style, which I have found highly effective in transmitting large amounts of information in a short period of time, in such a manner that it is understood in a broader context, so that it may be applied in future discussion, thought, or examination. My belief is that the key to teaching is making material relevant within a discussion, and it is by using this dialectic format that I think genuine learning is best achieved.
