About Gabriella

Hi my name is Gabriella Gubbins but everyone calls me by my nickname which is "Babi" (pronounced as "Bobby"). You may be wondering why this is my nickname and it's because my sister couldn't pronounce "Gabriella" when we were toddlers, so, she called me "Babi". It's spelled with an "a" rather than an "o" because it is a Portuguese spelling (I grew up in Brazil for the first 4 years of my life).
Currently, I am a sophomore on the Beach Volleyball team at Stanford University and I am in the process of declaring my major in Political Science and minor in English. I have already worked a lot with K-12 students when I was in high school and even here at Stanford University when I worked the volleyball day camps that both my high school and Stanford offered. I have always loved working with younger people and helping to inspire them to be the best version of themselves in various aspects. Some facts about me as a person are that I LOVE animals, I was born in Southern California, and that I speak 2.5 languages (English, Portuguese, and some Spanish).

About the lesson

My teaching methods and techniques include the option to either meet with me virtually via Zoom/Google Meetings or in person (if you are located within a certain proximity to me) depending on your preference. I believe that the best method to learning something new is learning the function of each new thing you learn, which is what I aim to do within my teaching techniques. I will break down subjects into detailed lessons aiming to teach you the history, function, and importance of each new learning target.
Within our meeting times, I will allot a time for us to do an in-session writing activity that I will specifically make for and tailor to your needs for each session we have in order to practice and improve the skill(s) you may want to focus on. I will also offer time for assisted revision on any school assignments you may want to go over with me or any further questions you may have. With each lesson plan, you will understand the function of reading and writing techniques as well as how to apply those in your own writing. I aim to give you the tools and strategies in order to be able to read, persuade, and write at your desired level.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my genuine connection that I build with those I tutor and mentor. I view myself as a people-person and love working with younger people. I view tutoring as a powerful position in which I get to enlighten those I work with on the power, function, and fun parts of learning and being educated. With this perspective in mind, I aim to not only help my students learn in a fun, light-hearted yet driven environment, but also gain purpose, excitement, and passion for their learning journey.
These lessons may be for anyone K-12 as not only can I teach more advanced writing techniques but also introductory techniques of writing and reading. All I need to know is the goal for the student and I can lead from there. :)
