About Gideon

After being home educated for 12 years and being in Sixth Form for 2, I have experienced both poor and amazing classroom teaching and 1 on 1 tutoring and have become familiar with what makes a good tutor. Using this, I have applied a gentle but thorough approach when tutoring KS3, GCSE and A Level students in both Maths and Chemistry. I am fully aware of how the rigidity of the school system can be both intimidating and frustrating to students who are struggling, but fully believe that with a tutor who is willing to match their teaching to a student's learning style it is easily achievable for them to work through the difficult patches and regain their academic confidence, having had to work through this myself when I studied my GCSEs outside of school.

About the lesson

With 12 years of home education followed by a successful 2 years in school (achieving 3 A*s at A Level), I am more than familiar with unconventional methods of learning and teaching and am comfortable with shaping my teaching style around each specific student. Typically this consists of taking a fresh look at content which the student is struggling with and working through examples until they are comfortable as well as, where it is helpful, teaching new content to give the student a headstart in school. I have had experience tutoring both Maths and Chemistry at ages ranging from 12 to 18 in sessions that last from 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on the student's preference; usually in person but occasionally online as well.
