About Teagan

I am a current college student who started playing piano at the age of 4. While I struggled to find a personal passion for the instrument, I continued to attend lessons until I went to university so that I would have a creative hobby. Once moving, I set up my electric piano and began to play on my own time. As a psychology major, I have learned about the importance of having hobbies and particularly musical ones. I began to find ways to make playing piano more enjoyable for myself. Finding motivation from within has been extremely beneficial for me and I have been able to hone the skills that I spent years learning. I am a dedicated student who is passionate about spreading the joy of music and piano. I can help with many piano-related skills from sight-reading to hand and finger shaping/placement.

About the lesson

Due to my experience as a piano student, I know it can be difficult to stay motivated and engaged with the instrument and am dedicated to finding personal connections to the skill so that they find intrinsic value in piano.

A typical lesson would begin with more technical and theoretical training such as scales, chords, and intervals. This would include reviewing the different types of scales and keys as well as practicing hand independence and interdependence and finger placement. As for the rest of the lesson, I can provide appropriate pieces to learn and practice or aid in choosing one. We will look through the piece as a whole and then break it down to learn it while remembering the technique we reviewed earlier in the lesson. The goal will be to not only be able to read the piece of music, but be able to play it with ease. Some students may be interested in memorization, which is also a goal I can assist with.

My lessons are recommended for younger children or new learners who are interested in learning music technique and theory in addition to learning how to play piano.
