As a composer and theorist with decades of experience teaching students in private lessons and classrooms, I can tailor lessons to your needs.
Students can get individual feedback on counterpoint and voice-leading, compositional techniques, theory terms. I want students to get what they want out of lessons, so I make sure to tailor individual student needs into my lesson plans.
I make sure to also use my expertise to fill in knowledge gaps when students need them, and try to begin lessons with direct feedback on a student's work.

Aaron has done an excellent job preparing my students through private instrumental lessons. He is a good planner and always came prepared to share his knowledge and encouragement to help the students achieve their goals. Highly recommended!
I got to know Aaron both as a graduate student and as TA for my songwriting course at the University of Virginia. He assisted students with a wide variety of projects, involving both performance and music theory. He has a thorough knowledge of music theory, a broad range of teaching experience and a very approachable manner.
I have known Aaron for almost 20 years as he studied music and trombone, worked as long term sub in a high school band with me, and developed his composing skills. I have played several pieces he has written and commissioned a work for our honor band event with him.
Aaron is a very deep and critical thinker, often seeing things in a unique perspective that allows you to see all sides of the equation. He is very funny in a dry and witty way and very good at explaining the parts behind the thinking.
As a theory expert, I would absolutely trust the information he offers and recommend his input. A performer, a composer, and a critical thinker. Aaron will guide you to understanding!I am a retired music educator, but while employed Aaron was a highly sought substitute for my music classes. He is not only knowledgable in multiple areas of music, but knows how to instruct individual learners to become better musicians, be it in theory or composition. He has proven himself to be an exceptional composer through multiple live performances of his original music. Tutoring from Aaron would be well worth the time and money invested.
