My teaching strategy is to meet each student where they are, engage them with what they know and how they intend to use the language, then from there, grow their technique, vocabulary, and mechanics. I believe when it comes to language acquisition, it works best when the student is learning to communicate about subjects that they can relate to and express themselves in a natural way.
Studying abroad in Spain and Mexico has afforded me the opportunity of being immersed in two different cultures and native dialects. While completing my Bachelors in Spanish, I began student teaching Beginner and level 1 Spanish at my university and working at the language lab on campus. Upon graduating with honors, my first professional position was a Program Coordinator for a grant funded after school program in Chicago Public Schools on the south side. Additionally, I have continuously provided tutoring and group Spanish lessons for preschools, after school programs and adult students all over Chicago.
